The Butterstile Curriculum
At Butterstile, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework, the National Curriculum and Bury's Agreed Religious Education Syllabus.
Using these documents, our Curriculum has been designed with the focus being the 'Butterstile Child'. The school year is organised into six whole school themes, one for each half term. More details of these can be seen below.
Each theme also incorporates the teaching of specific 'Values', as well as local and global themes linked to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. Click on the Sustainable Development Goals image to see what the 17 goals are.
Through our curriculum we also support UNICEF's Rights Respecting School Award. Butterstile is currently a Silver Rights Respecting School, which means children's rights are learned, understood and lived at our school. We are now working hard to achieve Gold! Withdrawal from RE Learning
Parents have the right to request their child is withdrawn from Religious Education. Where parents are wishing to exercise this right, we would suggest that parents first meet with the Headteacher to discuss their concerns. If the matter cannot be resolved, parents need to apply to the Governing Body in writing to withdraw their child from RE lessons. The Governing body will make arrangements with the Headteacher for the child(ren) to be supervised or engaged in another activity during this time. We are mindful that everyone holds different beliefs and this is very much taken into consideration at Butterstile Primary School through our whole curriculum, including RE lessons.
