We have been back at school for 3 weeks now and the Christmas holidays seem like a distant memory as we prepare for lots of events coming up for the school in 2019.
Children's Mental Health Week - Week beginning 4th Feb
A working party of staff have been busy planning and preparing for Children's Mental Health Week. The theme this year is Healthy: Inside and Out. The children will have the opportunity to take part in activities and workshops to develop their knowledge and understanding of how to look after their bodies, focusing on their physical and mental health.
These activities include:
- Yoga - including a session for staff
- Healthy eating
As well as sessions lead by myself as a Place2Be Mental Health Champion and by Angela Preston, our Place2Be School Project Manager.
During the week, we will be asking our children to complete a diary to help them to see how they can look after themselves. In the diary, the children will be collecting information about themselves, such as:
- How many hours sleep have they had?
- How many hours have they spent on a device?
- How many portions of fruit or vegetables have they eaten?
We would really appreciate all of your support to help the children complete the diaries each night that week.
Safer Internet Day - Tuesday 5th February
We are fully aware of what an amazing resource the Internet is, but how it can also pose many dangers for children, especially if their use is not monitored. All classes complete a programme of Internet Safety lessons throughout the year, however on this day, Internet Safety will be a main focus and the children will be completing activities on how to stay safe online. Further information and resources will be sent out nearer the time to support parents/carers in ensuring your children are as safe as possible when they are online at home.
The office staff and class teachers have been really busy planning and organising school visits for the coming months. Letters will be coming home in the next few weeks, if you have not received them already. Most of the visits are not taking place until the Summer term, however we wanted to give you as much notice as possible, as we appreciate the financial implications, especially when you have more than one child in school.
Year 5 started our class assemblies on Friday with an outstanding assembly on Growth Mindset. The children performed beautifully and gave us all a lot to think about in how we tackle new ideas and concepts.
Next week will see the turn of Year 3 and over coming weeks the other year groups will take to the stage. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the dates of some of the Year 1 and 2 assemblies have had to be re-arranged. Please check the calendar and Class Dojo for the most up to date information.
Friends of Butterstile
As requested by parents, we have arranged an evening meeting to re-launch the Friends of Butterstile. The meeting will take place in school on Wednesday 6th February at 7pm. I'm looking forward to seeing as many parents as possible so we can begin to plan and arrange some exciting events for our children and their families.
